Meet the Maker

I’m Julie, and on any given day I’m covered in some mix of rope fibre, dye, and horse hair.

I’ve been around horses since I was five. Since then I’ve picked up a science degree in Animal Health, years of farrier training, a soft spot for off-track Thoroughbreds, and a hobby that involves many, many hours in the saddle! 

Somewhere along the way I also started dyeing my own rope and knotting my own halters, and The Maker Barn Studio grew out of that.

Here’s what keeps me busy:

The Maker Barn Studio: Rope tack, dog gear, DIY kits, and the supplies to make your own. This is also where I teach people to make their own stuff via tutorials and workshops. 

Working Feel Equine: Horse training, riding lessons, barefoot trimming, and hoof-boot fitting, for people who want clear communication and a horse that’s happy to work with them. I specialize in young horse development and colt starting, both Western and English. 

Sage Hollow Rabbitry: Where I breed Mini Plush Lops and Rex rabbits for pets, meat, and show.

I live with a border collie (Kira), my fiance, a couple of horses (Wren and Alyra), and a workbench that’s never tidy.
