Our Story
Designed through experience. Built for real use.
The Maker Barn Studio is a small-batch studio in Saskatchewan, Canada making functional horse and dog gear shaped by real training and everyday handling. The shop began as Sagebrush Tack and grew into something more than finished pieces—DIY kits, tutorials, and supplies are part of the work here too, so customers can learn to build their own gear with confidence.
Meet the Maker
Hi, I’m Julie Pratt — a lifelong horsewoman, maker, and animal-health professional based in Saskatchewan.
My background includes animal health and veterinary research, which means I’m always paying attention to the details that matter in real life: how tack fits, what materials do after months of use, and how small design choices change comfort and communication. I’m not interested in overcomplicating things — I just like building gear that makes sense, looks good, and holds up over time.
What started as DIY experimentation for my own horses and dog turned into The Maker Barn Studio: custom horse and dog gear, plus kits and resources that make the “how” approachable. Whether you’re ordering finished gear or building your own, the goal is the same — solid materials, straightforward design, and enough guidance to make confident choices.
Mission
The Maker Barn Studio exists to provide functional gear and practical education that help handlers make informed, evidence-based choices about fit, design, and use—always with animal comfort and long-term durability in mind.
From DIY kits and educational resources to ready-made gear, everything we create is designed to be used thoughtfully and maintained over time. The Maker Barn Studio is built for riders and dog owners who want tools they can trust—and the understanding to use them well.
