Our Story

The Maker Barn Studio is a small-batch, woman-owned shop based in Saskatchewan, Canada.

It offers horse and dog gear, DIY kits, and maker supplies for people who want the option to either build their own or choose a finished piece made by hand.

Not everything here has to be bought ready-made. The studio also focuses on giving you the materials and guidance to make your own gear, understand how it all comes together, and create something that feels right for you and your horse or dog.

Whether you build it yourself or choose a finished piece, everything is shaped by the same approach—paying attention to fit, feel, and material choice, and how those decisions affect how something works in use.

Meet the Maker

Julie Pratt is the maker behind The Maker Barn Studio.

She started building tack for her own horses, looking for better options than what she could find locally. What began as a few custom pieces grew into a small-batch studio offering finished gear, DIY kits, and the materials to make it yourself.

Her background in animal science and research shaped how she approaches design, but most of the decisions still come from hands-on use—riding, training, and paying attention to how things fit, feel, and hold up over time.

Everything in the shop is built with that in mind. If you’re not sure what you need, she’s always happy to help you choose materials, sizing, or the right setup before you order.

Mission

The Maker Barn Studio is built around making gear that works, and understanding why it works.

From finished pieces to DIY kits and materials, everything is shaped by hands-on use—how it fits, how it feels, and how it holds up over time, with animal comfort always in mind.
